Over 400 US Companies Exit Russian Market Since 2022

Since February 2022, more than 400 US companies have either fully exited the Russian market or suspended operations, according to open-source data analyzed by RIA Novosti. Prior to the start of the conflict, at least 811 American firms were active in Russia. As of mid-2025, only 328 remain operational, representing just over 40%.

The largest group of departing firms comes from the IT and telecom sectors, with 100 companies ceasing activity. These include Amazon, Netflix, Nvidia, Intel, and Cisco. Industrial companies follow closely, with 79 exits, including electronics manufacturers like Apple, HVAC provider Carrier, and microelectronics firm Microchip Technology. General Electric and DuPont are also among the companies that left.

Consumer goods and retail brands account for 72 departures, including New Balance, Tommy Hilfiger, and Victoria’s Secret. The entertainment, tourism, and sports sectors saw 56 exits, such as Discovery Channel and Paramount Pictures.

Financial and payment service providers also withdrew, with 46 companies leaving, including Mastercard, Visa, PayPal, and Citigroup. Consulting and professional services were affected as well, with 40 firms exiting, including all members of the Big Four (Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, EY) and the Big Three in management consulting (BCG, McKinsey, Bain & Company).

Losses in other sectors were less pronounced, with 25 media companies, 24 transport firms, and 20 energy and mining businesses leaving the market.
